King Chop Suey
About This Spot
Stepping into King Chop Suey is like entering a quietly cherished corner of St. Louis where the familiar hum of neighborhood life meets the comforting scent of home-style Chinese cooking. This modest, open space invites you to slow down and savor a meal in a setting that feels grounded and unpretentious, with simple seating that encourages a friendly pace rather than a hurried one.
The atmosphere here is relaxed, marked by small moments that reflect genuine human connection—a warm greeting as you walk in, a polite “thank you” on the way out, and a patient willingness from the staff to make things right when something’s a bit off. It’s this blend of thoughtful service and a welcoming rhythm that transforms King Chop Suey from just another spot on the avenue into a quietly valued companion for local diners.
When you settle in, the aromas and textures of carefully prepared dishes start to tell their own story. Whether it’s the satisfying crunch of crispy, tender beef over crisp rice noodles or a plate that layers fresh vegetables and spices in unexpectedly harmonious ways, the food here wears its authenticity with quiet confidence. The menu’s variety invites exploration—from elevated takes on classic fried rice to subtly spiced Thai-style specials—each dish offering a grounded, honest experience rather than flash.
King Chop Suey holds a particular charm for those who know their way around town’s deeper dining pockets. It’s a place to return to for reliable meals that come with the kind of customer kindness you don’t always find, especially in bustling neighborhoods. Small imperfections here don’t feel like oversights but rather the human moments that make dining feel more personal and less transactional.
For those who appreciate a restaurant where the food tastes like someone caring quietly in the kitchen, and where you’re met with subtle attentiveness, King Chop Suey offers a humble yet resonant taste of local life in St. Louis.

I got the special combination fried rice! It was so good along with some crab rangoons! Everything was fresh. Its a small open space with chairs along the wall. I'll definitely be back.

They actually have good customer service. They say hello and goodbye and thank you and I appreciate that they make mistakes and correct them and apologize. This restaurant is not rude. How they often are across the street.

This place is bit of a drive and it was worth it. The chicken and shrimp fried rice was delicious although my shrimp was very soft and my husband said his was fine. We normally go across the street to John's but this will be our new got to for fried rice. We also had wonton and they were delicious too! I didn't go inside so I cannot comment. The person taking the orders was difficult to understand, my shrimp and there are only like 5 parking spaces which is why I gave a 4.
